Many people wonder what causes patterns in human development, where civilization began, how groups of people migrated and settled around the world and why human behavior can vary so wildly. EOU’s bachelor’s in anthropology and sociology provides answers to those questions and more with its focuses on inquiry, research and critical thinking.

With one of two concentrations in either anthropology or sociology/social welfare, prepare for a career or to pursue graduate study in related fields. This program expands a student’s worldview by approaching culture and society with interdisciplinary, analytical perspectives. The curriculum features opportunities for in-depth research in which students work directly with faculty to develop critical thinking, analytical skills, general statistical practices and reflection. Unique assignments such as oral histories, maps, autobiographies and reaction papers are included in the coursework.

The anthropology concentration studies the development of cultures and civilizations, biological diversity and languages to prepare students for international career opportunities and upper-level research. The sociology/social welfare concentration provides skills that transfer to a social work career or graduate school.

After completing the online bachelor's program in anthropology and sociology, graduates can work in many positions, such as an anthropologist, sociologist, community health specialist, government employee, archaeologist, law enforcement officer or forestry officer. Some might also work in higher education or with nonprofits.
