Economics Management and Policies for Global Challenges is an international Master's degree for Italian and non-Italian students.
Foreign students are welcome and exchange programs like Erasmus+ are strongly encouraged and supported.
The second cycle degree in Economics, Management and Policies for Global Challenges is generally completed over two years after having earned 120 credits.
Students choose their curriculum in the first year.
There are two curricula offered to students enrolling in the first year of Economics, Markets and Management in 2019/2020:
- SMEs in International Markets
- Green Economy and sustainability
Structure of this Master Degree:
We offer dedicated teaching in the advanced core areas of industrial economics and business administration related to the internationalization of SMEs, with the opportunity to choose from an interesting portfolio of optional courses.
Curriculum SMEs in International Markets:
- Kristianstad University (Sweden).
Curriculum Green Economy and Sustainability:
- Southern Denmark University (Denmark );
- East Anglia University (UK).
Qualification required for enrolment
To attend the second-cycle (master’s) degree program in Economics, Management and Policies for Global Challenges, you must have a first-cycle (bachelor's) degree or equivalent as well a working knowledge of the English language (level B2).
To enroll in the second-cycle degree program, the following qualifications may also be accepted:
- A single-cycle four-year degree under the former system (a degree in political economics, economics and business, business economics or the equivalent), a degree in classes (ex 509) 17 (economics and business management) and 28 (economics) and in classes (ex 270) L-18 (economics and business management) and L33 (economics), or an equivalent foreign qualification.
- If not from the above classes, the student must have earned an adequate number of educational credits in groups of economic-business and mathematical-statistical subject areas. Those competencies must be certified by the student's transcripts and recognizable in at least 50 educational credits, at least 30 of which must be in an economic field (subject classes: M-GRR/02 Economic-political geography; SECS-P/01 Political economy; SECS-P/02 Political economy; SECS-P/03 Finances SECS-P/04 History of economic thought; SECS-P/05 Econometrics; SECS-P/06 Applied economics; SECS-P/12 Economic history), 10 in a business-economics field (subject classes: SECS-P/07 Business economics; SECS-P/08 Business economics and management; SECS-P/09 Business finance; SECS-P/10 Business organization; SECS-P/11 Economics of financial intermediaries) and 10 in a statistics-mathematics field (MAT/01 Mathematical logic; MAT/02 Algebra; MAT/03 Geometry; MAT/05 Mathematical analysis; INF/01 Computer science; MAT/06 Probability and mathematical statistics; SECS-S/01 Statistics; SECS-S/03 - Economic statistics; SECS-S/04 Demographics; SECS-S/05 Social statistics SECS-S/06 Mathematical methods for economics and insurance and finances).
For graduates holding the degrees described in point 1, the verification of personal preparedness will be based on the marks given upon graduation., with 70/110 being the minimum accepted.
Graduates holding a degree in the classes listed in point 1 that do not meet this minimum and graduates coming from other degree classes as described in point 2 will be evaluated by the competent teaching structure which may then proceed to a preliminary interview to prove the candidate possesses the required knowledge and competencies.
Teaching methods and frequency
The degree program is carried out entirely in the classroom (ie no online courses).
- Proficiency in English, corresponding to at least Level B2 (curricula 1 and 2)
Assessment of language skills
In order to enroll in this course, you will need to demonstrate to the Teaching Committee that you have Level B2 English and/or Italian skills.
If you meet one of the following criteria, you are considered EXEMPT FROM THE ENGLISH INTERVIEW:
- If you are a native English speaker;
- If you have an equivalent internationally recognized certificate (to be attached to the pre-enrolment application form).
Teaching and Attendance
Students are kindly required to attend the lessons/lectures/seminars.
Occasionally attend and /or self-study at home is not recommended, as it would impoverish the students' experience. The final exam is the verification of the learning process that lasts throughout the semester.
Additional information about the degree program
Type-D freely chosen courses (guidelines for choosing)
The term for presenting freely-chosen activities is established by the Academic Senate on 30 November. Students can earn 14 credits, set aside for freely-chosen activities (educational activities indicated with numbers 12 and 13):
- Choosing the subjects offered in their curriculum,
- Choosing optional subjects or essential subjects from other curricula,
- Choosing courses from other educational structures in English
It is not possible to choose single “modules” belonging to integrated exams. In addition, students are asked to choose second-level program courses (masters or specialist) or courses from single-cycle masters degree courses that are taught in English.
Students holding foreign language certifications issued by certifying entities recognized internationally may be recognized for the exams in the corresponding language, if the student presents a request to the Student Administration Office.
Professional and educational activities, as long as they are consistent with the degree program, may be recognized upon request, drawn up in accordance with the forms available on the educational structure's website, to be submitted to the Student Administration Office.
Students who enroll in the second cycle degree in Economics, Management and Policies for Global Challenges at the University of Ferrara will be the only students in Italy to have access to the P.I.L. (an Italian job placement program). The goal of P.I.L is to create a qualification program based on teaching and accompaniment in the job market through an integrated phase of education-training-work, with an overall duration of about 18 months to be carried out at businesses, public administrations and international institutes.
4 type-F credits may be recognized for participation in the University of Ferrara’s sub-project 1 of the PIL Project, if the final review is positive, replacing the internship exam. The marks from the sub-project 1 final review will be converted into marks out of 30 (if not already) and associated with already-awarded credits.
The awarding of the degree in Economics, Management and Policies for Global Challenges (classes LM-56) makes it possible to take the Italian State Exam which in turn makes it possible to become a chartered accountant, after completing a traineeship.
Passing the state exam also makes it possible to register with the Italian Chartered Accountant and Accounting Expert Registry under section A, “Accountants”.
In compliance with the framework agreement signed between MIUR (Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research) and CNDCEC (the National Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts Board) of October 2014, the Order of Chartered Accountants and Accounting Experts of Ferrara and the University of Ferrara has drafted a special convention intended to establish conditions of facilitated access to the state exam.
This means that students may be exempted from the first written exam and complete the traineeship during the second cycle degree program, upon verification that they meet the requirements. The University of Ferrara is a location for the state exam.
In compliance with the duties for the educational/training activities established by the Degree Program Regulations, students can earn their degree by pursuing a curriculum of varied lengths.
Pursuant to the University Teaching Regulations and the Student Regulations, students who do not intend to complete the degree in the standard amount of time may choose to follow:
- A curriculum with an extended duration, enrolling in a semester, or rather, single courses within the degree program with respect for the previously-indicated requirements.
- A curriculum with a shorter duration (any way at least two years) anticipating some activities
Should the student choose a curriculum with a longer than normal duration, and, in the meantime, should the degree program regulations change, the student will have to pursue his or her studies according to the new educational plan, subject to evaluation by the Degree Program Board.
Recognition of qualifications obtained abroad
The recognition of a degree earned abroad for the Economics, Management and Policies for Global Challenges degree is established by the Educational Structure Board, upon presentation of the request accompanied by the course programs.
Requests for any type of confirmation of exams or attendance, to forward to the Educational Structure Board, must be presented to the Student Administration Office, along with the related course programs.
The recognition of credits coming from a professional career may be awarded in the case that it is possible to attest to the level of knowledge of the competencies gained by competition or by a training course that includes a final score.
For knowledge and previous professional activities, pursuant to art. 14 par. 1 of law n. 240/2010 and without prejudice to that established by the ministerial regulation provided for in par. 2 of that same article, a maximum of 12 credits may be recognized.
Curriculum Small and Medium Enterprises overview:
2nd cycle degree entirely taught in English forming graduates who are qualified to assume managerial or consultant positions in international markets. The course provides students with integrated management abilities in order to enable them to address international issues in small and medium enterprises. The main topics of SMEs in international markets aim at developing strong skills in the economics areas and performance, organizational and financial management.
Curriculum Green Economy and Sustainability overview:
2nd cycle degree entirely taught in English forming graduates who are qualified to assume managerial or consultant positions in the Green Economy sector. The course provides students with interdisciplinary abilities in order to enable them to address issues related to the green economy and sustainable development. The main topics of the Green economy and sustainability are eco-innovation, green economy, and sustainable development. Challenging eco-policy issues - from both national and international perspectives - are studied as well.
